Avi Stein

 

Avi Stein is an active continuo accompanist who has played with ensembles such as the Baroque Orchestras of Los Angeles, Seattle and Indianapolis and the Warsaw and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras. In his Carnegie Hall debut he was reviewed by the New York Times as "a brilliant organ soloist."  Avi is currently the music director at St. Matthew & St. Timothy Church in New York City.  He is also finishing his doctoral studies in organ and harpsichord at Indiana University.  Avi was previously the assistant organist and choirmaster at St. Paul's Cathedral in Buffalo, New York. He has performed throughout the United States, in Europe, Canada, and Central America.  Avi holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music as well as the University of Southern California and was the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship for study in Toulouse.


Avi has also conducted a variety of ensembles. A recent concert of cantatas by Bach and Johann Kuhnau at the 2006 Bloomington Early Music Festival was described as "delectably sung and directed expertly and artfully by Avi Stein."
